Clarke’s Avadh, Lucknow – February 13 to 16, 2011
We reached Lucknow at 5:30pm. It took us one hour by taxi to reach the hotel at Clarke’s Avadh. As we drove thru the city we noticed that most of the roads are dug up to install sewer lines or for road widening. At every important junction we saw the Chief Minister Mayavathi’s statue installed. We came here to recollect the old memories and meet some associates from the town planning department where I worked before leaving the country for USA in 1969. To our surprise the front of the hotel had Cycle Rikshaws (man pedaled) and some taxis and no Auto Rikshaws to go round the city. We went to see a Hindi movie “Yeh Saali Zindigi” in a theater in Hazratganj.
One day we went round to visit all my old associates and visited Mr & Mrs vinod Sinha for lunch. Mrs Kamala sinha is the eldest daughter of late Dr GSN Murthy, Health officer of UP government I knew when I was working. In the evening my assistant and colleague Mr Bandopadyay now retired and living in Lucknow came to the hotel and spent a few hours. Every one we met was happy to meet and exchange greetings and recollect the past after a long time.
