Mahabalipuram is located on the sea shore about 80 KM to Chennai in Tamilnadu. Archeologists have attempted to preserve the sculptures created in 16th century. The temple complex built by Chola Kings is being defaced by the beating of wind and waves from the ocean. A big wall of rocks is installed to dampen the effect. Still one can observe the eroding features of the various sculptures. Mahabalipuram is known as Dakshin Kashi.

Pondichery is a french colony in Tamilnadu situated about 150 KM from Channai. The road to Pondichery is an express way along the beach and takes four hours to reach.
