Radisson Varanasi; The Mall - Feb 19 – 22, 2011
We checked out and left Kanpur by road and reached Lucknow airport at 9:30 AM. We reached Varanasi by flight. We were surprised to land in a brand new airport. In 2009 November we saw an old and congested airport. We went to the baggage claim and some one claimed our bag. We waited expecting it to come but we were told that all bags are delivered. The airport manager contacted the passenger who has taken our bag and asked him to come back and return at the airport. Meanwhile we contacted the hotel to inform the driver who came to collect us at the airport to inform him of our delay in coming out of the airport. After half hour the passenger came back to the airport with our bag and claimed his bag. The color was same but not the size or weight. Finally we went out of the airport, and went to the hotel after an hour and half drive. The hotel is very nice and staff exceptionally hospitable and very busy. We settled in the room and called it a day.
Next day we went to see the Besant Theosophical School in Rajghat area where I went to school. On return we went to the mall to see a Hindi Movie “Patiala House” which was very good. The Mall is like any Mall in the Western countries with no relevance to local market needs except for the movie halls.
Next day we went to “Sankat Mochan – Hanumaan temple” and to Banaras Hindu University. We went to see the Engineering School where I graduated in 1957. I met briefly Dr Gupta a professor in mechanical Engineering and toured the old haunts, visited Viswanath Temple on BHU campus and returned. We really enjoyed our stay in Radisson. We opened the internet and saw email from Pamela my neighbor in Jackson, who watches over my house in our absence. Pamela informed that all the lights in our park were broken and vandalized by neighborhood kids of ages 10 – 12. So we made calls to Jackson to assess the situation and claimed for insurance with Dennis Chandler to be followed with him on our return to Jackson We left Varanasi on February 22nd to Delhi in preparation to our return trip to Jackson.
